So I was going to throw down another post on the state of America (see Siskel and Roeper) but instead I got some new exciting news! One of the promotional films I made for Vestal ended up on TBS this weekend during "A Very Brady Sequel." I'd post the movie, but there is a lot of filler- the Vestal section is in the last quarter of the movie, past all of the Vegas Wedding stuff.

My family and I are pretty excited about this - but no movie studios have called yet. My number is 714.501.2301- I'm available to finish off the Harry Potter series.

So I've been thinking about this for a while. At this point its a bit belated but forget it, I got to put it out there. Do you remember when you were a kid - before the internet- cellphone updates- movie phone, fandango and all that stuff? Back in those days if you were into watching movies at all, on some sunday nights you'd watch Siskel and Ebert review movies. Of course Siskel passed on and Roeper took over. But it was still a nice little tag team of some open minded intellectuals who were talking about movies and letting you know if they sucked or not. Watching the program was like sharing a moment with your really cool really rich uncle, who had taken some time off between revolutionizing industry in china, going on Safari in Kenya and re- reading War and Peace for the twelth time to sit and talk to you, maybe recommend a way not to waste two hours of your life.

It was a clear thumbs up or thumbs down. Their positive reviews could be earned by any kind of film, they appreciated stupid comedies like Airplane or The Naked Gun, but at the same time would give honest reviews about hardcore Oscar winning dramas too. It was a vast span of reviews and they were always helpful.

Fast forward to today. Yes the times have changed, with the internet and all kinds of tech wizardry few are sitting down to watch these reviews. But if you went into a Blockbuster or onto your Netflix they still had your back. When your chick or your brother or sister or your Mom or your Dad suggested a movie that looked questionable all you had to do was turn it over and see if it was a thumbs up or down. This was the small boundary that divided a dumb- waste of time romantic comedy from one that everyone could enjoy. If those thumbs weren't mentioned on the box you knew it sucked.

So in our everybody-wins AYSO even playing field of bullshit I nearly spit up my breakfast when I saw that they were being replaced. Who were their successors you may ask? Well I have to report to you in vain that this day can go down in history as the day the movie died. They are being replaced by two "Bens" HOW CUTE!

Ben one is from TCM, and looks like a Shakespeare festival reject. Ben two looks like a dark haired Ryan Seacrest. Don't worry he is "edgy" since he wears Affliction tees covered by over designed "I wanted to be a rockstar" Kitson- ish sportscoats.

I mean really?! REALLY! I'm sure the show is going to be turned into an E entertainment- the Soup - TMZ style show, basically an US Weekly half hour of movie promoting power!!!!

Just look at this quote :

"With the addition of Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz as our talented, charismatic "meaning wax-statue esque, and opinionless,"new co-hosts, and exciting new segments planned, we're confident that audiences will be enjoying 'At the Movies' for many years to come," said Brian Frons, who oversees Buena Vista Productions...

I can see the flashy graphics, the kiss ass interviews, the fake laughs, The Tom Cruise ass kissing.

In the name of time everything is getting quicker, flashier, and more spontaneous, but I can't think of anything that has saved me as much time as turning over a movie box, seeing the two thumbs down and putting it back on the shelf.

Thank you to Ebert and Roeper and Siskel for all of the two hour blocks of life you have saved me!

I went to the KANYE WEST - Glow in the Dark tour last night at Nokia. I gotta say this was some next level shit! Kanye took performing to the next level, with real emotion and great production design. If you weren't a fan, even if you don't like hip hop I think this one would win you over. For one man to carry a show like this ALONE for well over an hour is just ridiculous! I'm still flyin high!

READ THIS : Addressing the title of the blog's website "Freetime is now Extinct" I would like to point out several things. One, to the author of (most of) the blogs: freetime must really be extinct, because he doesn't blog nearly enough as I'd like him to, considering how thoughtfully intelligent I consider him to be. I have random chat's with the author, and many insightful and interesting conversations, none of which he addresses or discusses on his blog. Everything from new cool mom's to violent sex, to great movies, to crazy girls in other states and secret loves left behind (or not), but none of these get mentioned. Some of the best dialogues I've had are with the author of the blog, in which we always engage actively in new and old ideas. Instead of mentioning things we discuss, or things like things we discuss, we get cool images and cool pictures (very cool, actually), which nonetheless interest me because I also always consider what it means to say nothing.

THEN THIS: The title of the blog particularly interests me, because free time is in fact, not extinct. In fact, for a blog to survive at all, in can not be extinct, or no one would post, and no one would read/check it out. TIME is always a concept that has captivated my attention, thus freeTIME is of interest to me. With so many sayings about time, ie: "the timing was off" , "Freetime is not extinct," I wonder if these are things people just like to say, but don't actually mean, or if they actually mean them. One always makes time to do the things one wants to, or feels they ought to, and really, to call time, freetime, is odd to me, because all of time is free. We just don't always spend it well.
But I see why the "Freetime is now Extinct" is an appealing title: Anything--everything-- is appealing under the attraction of the impossible.

So the other day on fuse they were playing Madonna's truth or dare movie. I remember when it came out everyone was all excited about a scene with her and a water bottle. Watching it now it is so much better than that. The fact that it is shot on B& W film looks so good. It gives the movie a timeless, iconic feel that is pretty amazing. When Madonna is cruising in her hotel rooms it looks like a music video version of Roman Holiday circa 1988.

In addition, especially after such a hiatus I feel an explanation is in order. The pictures in the previous post are all in Barcelona near or in things made by Antonio Gaudi. For those that don't know him he was a really talented architect, but was walking across the street from his masterpiece church (as seen in the top picture) and he got hit by a car and died.

Until then he liked to make mosaic covered buildings that look like real life ginger bread houses. I wish he made more things and hid them in the forest somewhere, so someone could go and discover them and be like WHOA! I found a village of little people!!! A real life Hansel and Gretel- Grim's-Fairytale PLACE!!! But he didn't. Too bad.

He took a lot from nature, and this staircase is the perfect example. Yes it is the good ol conch shell made into a spiraling staircase. As I walked down from the tower this thing really freaked me out. I am not scared of heights or whatever but being in this enclosed space was a trip. It gave me vertigo, and I could have sworn that the little black hole in the center was a straight line to hell. If it was I could probably figure out a few people to push down it, but instead I just hugged the wall and walked fast...
